Moldovan premier meets with President of European Court of Human Rights

Chisinau, 6 October /MOLDPRES/ – Prime Minister Pavel Filip had a meeting with the President of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) Guido Raimondi in Chisinau today, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Moldova's accession to the European Convention on Human Rights.

According to the government’s communication and protocol department, during the talks, the Prime Minister welcomed the visit of the European high official, mentioning that it would contribute to strengthening the constructive partnership between Moldova and the Council of Europe (CoE). Similarly, Prime Minister Pavel Filip reiterated the Government's support for ECHR’s reform initiatives, noting that judicial practice had to be connected to social realities permanently.

In the context, the Prime Minister mentioned that the main objective of the Government was to ensure the well-being of the citizens of Moldova, noting the connectivity between the development of economy, social investments and respect for the rule of law. "The first element to be built and assured by a state to become rich is the rule of law. In this respect, reforms in justice, fighting corruption, ensuring human rights are not abstract notions, but landmarks for us," said Pavel Filip.

Also, the Premier introduced the European official into the implementation process of the reforms launched by the Government, in particular referring to the central public administration reform and its primary role in strengthening the state institutions, including those of the law. In the same chain of ideas, the Prime Minister pointed out the collaboration between the state institutions in order to solve cases of increased social interest, mentioning the creation of an inter-institutional platform for monitoring and controlling the investigation of bank fraud, with the involvement of the Parliament (PM), Government (GM), National Bank of Moldova (BNM), General Prosecutor's Office (PG) and the National Anticorruption Centre (CNA).

At his turn, ECHR President Guido Raimondi expressed his full support in promoting democratic reforms, human rights and rule of law in Moldova, as to ensure equality of rights, promotion of non – discriminatory values ​​and tolerance in society.
