Moldovan premier says Wine Day offers chance to increase notoriety of brand: Moldova’s Wine. A living legend

Chisinau, 7 October /MOLDPRES/ – Prime Minister Pavel Filip participated at the opening of the XVIth issue of National Wine Day 2017 today. The event gathered 47 local producers, but also numerous visitors from Moldova and abroad, which were able to get aware of Moldovan wines’ quality, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.

In his speech, the Head of the Executive remarked that the wine industry has been one of key branches of Moldova’s economy, employing one third of its population and the national wine festival offers a new opportunity to increase the reputation of brand "Moldova’s Wine. A living legend." "Our wines were made by generations of winemakers, they are in the world's largest cellars, they are appreciated by consumers in the East and West. We do not mistake at all when we say that we have legendary wines," said Pavel Filip.

Also, the Prime Minister specified that the Government would continue to support the development of the wine sector and implement policies in support of the producers in this field. In this context, Pavel Filip referred to the challenges arising from the embargoes imposed on Moldovan wines, specifying that they were overcome with dignity by winemakers, creating optimal conditions for the modernization of the branch and improving wine quality.

"No great loss without some small gain! The markets, with enough difficulty, but accepted the Moldovan wine offer because they found a good one. There appeared small wineries that implemented new technologies in the country and proved that Moldova can produce the highest quality wines. Therefore, we offered to all, even those who did not want our product, a lesson of dignity and fairness," said the Premier.

During the event, Prime Minister Pavel Filip handed out the Grand Prize for Special Merits in the wine sector of "Cricova" Winery. Similarly, accompanied by representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited to Moldova, the Prime Minister visited the stands of the wine producers and discussed with them the modern winemaking technologies and the new products promoted on the market.

Moldova ranks among the top 20 wine – producing countries, being the 13th largest wine exporter in the world. Two per cent of vineyards in the world are located in Moldova. Moldovan wines were exported to 42 countries and won about 300 medals at international competitions, out of which 60 per cent were gold medals in 2016.
