Chisinau, 11 October /MOLDPRES/- Moldovan President Igor Dodon had a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Sochi, the presidential press service has reported.

According to a press release by the presidential institution, “Dodon thanked once again the Russian leader for making several positive decisions on the export of Moldovan products to the Russian market and the labor migrants’ amnesty. In the eight months of 2017, the Moldovan products’ export to the Russian market in certain positions increased several times, which did not occur within 10 years, and tens of thousands of our compatriots could benefit from the migration amnesty, who work in Russia”.

The head of state opted for reviving economic ties between the two countries, expressing the interest in developing cooperation with Russia within CIS and other international organizations. At the same time, the president noted the importance that Moldova attaches to observer status within the Eurasian Economic Union.

In another context, Dodon said that Moldova relies on continuing Russia’s active participation in negotiations on the Transnistrian conflict. “We further rely on Russia’s support in promoting the Transnistrian conflict settlement process and we are interested in real progress on the matter this year”, he said. He reiterated Moldova’s stance on the Transnistrian problem:

“We are constantly supporting the Transnistrian conflict settlement within the 5+2 format, while respecting the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova, with a special status for Transnistria. We are willing to continue to promote a direct dialogue between Chisinau and Tiraspol at level of leaders, political representatives, representatives of civil society and working groups in order to build confidence to solve the current problems faced by people from both banks of the Dniestre”, the communiqué reads.

Also, the president pointed out that there are people in the Moldovan political elite who do not enjoy the improvement of the Moldovan-Russian relations and the development of our strategic partnership. “The government and parliamentary majority, controlled by the Western countries, are making every effort to undermine the relations between our countries. I categorically disapprove any anti-Russian manifestations by the Moldovan authorities, such as – deportations of Moldovan officials, journalists and artists, anti-Russian propaganda in media. I will not sign any anti-Russian law, even if the parliamentary majority votes again. This is true for the draft law on prohibition of broadcasting in Moldova news bulletins and informational-analytical programs produced in Russia”, he said.

Dodon asked the Russian president to back Moldova’s request on observer status within the Eurasian Economic Union.

Also, the Moldovan president requested the extension of list of Moldovan enterprises that will have access to the Russian market, as well as the amnesty of Moldovan citizens who have violated the Article No 27 of Federal Law No 114.

“I am sure that our relations with Russia – strategic partner of Moldova -  will continue to be strengthened, despite all obstacles that are being created”, Dodon concluded.
