Joint patrol teams to work at Moldovan – Romanian border

Chisinau, 1 November /MOLDPRES/ – The General Inspectorates of the Border Police within the Ministries of Internal Affairs of Moldova and Romania will carry out joint patrol activities along the state border. The Cabinet of Ministers approved the initiation of negotiations for the conclusion of a protocol in that respect today, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.
The activity of the joint patrol teams will significantly increase capacity to ensure security of the Moldovan – Romanian state border. It will more effectively prevent cross – border violations, in particular smuggling and illegal migration. Joint teams will operate on an area of 10 km from the border line on the territory of Moldova and Romania.
The Moldovan and Romanian authorities have coordinated patrols on the Prut river since 2012. Moldova also carries out the joint patrolling of the state border with Ukraine.
