Moldovan government approves national programme of prevention, control of diabetes

Chisinau, 7 November /MOLDPRES/ – The Cabinet of Ministers approved in its today meeting the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Diabetes for 2017 – 2021. The document aims to prevent the illness of the population and reduce mortality caused by diabetes, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

Thus, authorities will improve measures to prevent diabetes by early diagnosing chronic complications, stopping their progression through proper treatment and providing rehabilitation methods. The measures will also be taken to improve healthcare provided, medical centres be equipped with modern equipment and medical staff benefit from qualification courses.

Among the objectives set out within Programme are 10 per cent reductions in number of people at high risk of developing diabetes and 20 per cent in the mortality of people with diabetes by cardiovascular disease.

According to the document, people with diabetes will be compulsorily insured with pharmacological treatment. Similarly, electronic register of patients with diabetes is to be created for their more effective monitoring.

The costs necessary to implement the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Diabetes for 2017 – 2021 will be covered from the state budget and from external financing.

In Moldova diabetes is ranked fourth among the main causes of death of population and number of people suffering from that disease has been increasing.
