Infrastructure project launched within village of Moldovan Gagauzia

Chisinau, 20 November /MOLDPRES/ – A sewerage network with purification system was put into use in a festive ceremony in Copceac village, Ceadar – Lunga district, today.

The works in Copceac started in 2015, initially with the German development partners’ support, allocating €440 thousand on it. However, project costs (around MDL 2.2 million) were covered under programme: Supporting agriculture and rural development in Gagauzia and Taraclia district, financed by the EU and implemented by the UNDP, with contribution of Gagauzian executive. The works for connection to the sewerage network were also supported by the Slovak Agency for International Development and Cooperation.

Seven streets and 13 institutions of Copceac are now connected to sewerage network and sewage system has a capacity of one hundred cubic metres per day. In recent two years, a sum of MDL 11 million was capitalized, while authorities intending to connect the entire village to those ones.

"Germany is the main source of this project funding, but it is also important that the local administration did much to realize it," German Ambassador to Moldova, Julia Monar, said at the ceremony.

head of the EU Delegation in Chisinau, Peter Michalko, said that he attended an important and expected event for the locals. "Almost ten thousand inhabitants of Copceac village will benefit from a good infrastructure created with the help of foreign donors," said the diplomat.

Head of Gagauzia, Irina Vlah, said that not every locality can boast of such performance and assured for Gagauzian executive to support all development projects promoted by international partners.

Also today, Gagauzian leader had a meeting with Ambassador, Julia Monar, who discussed the prospects of expanding relations of collaboration and realization of several social projects. Also, the parties examined possibility of exchanging pedagogical staff that would increase qualification of German language teachers in the regional schools.
