Chisinau – based library marks 50th anniversary of publication of book by famous Moldovan writer

Chisinau, 01 December /MOLDPRES/ – The national library for children Ion Creanga marked the 50th anniversary of Spiridon Vangheli’s book: Ispravile lui Guguta (The adventures of Guguta). Over the past five decades, Guguta has arrived in the gallery of the famous characters from the universal children’s literature through numerous translations.

The guest of the event was writer Spiridon Vangheli, the spiritual father of Guguta, whom children made a king symbolically. Guguta was honored by the members of ensemble Opincuta from lyceum Ion Creanga, lyceum fine arts Nicolae Sulac, young actors from lyceums V. Poleacov and Princess Natalia Dadiani, other talented children.

During the event, it took place awarding of drawing contest’s winners: Together with Guguta, We make a good job! There were presented 241 works by pupils of Chisinau at the contest. The jury, together with Master Spiridon Vangheli, selected two works for prizes I, II and III, a special prize and 12 editing works. The laureates received diplomas and books with the author’s autograph. All works of the contest participants were presented in a virtual exhibition on the library website.

Emotive to this warm welcome, Spiridon Vangheli thanked the children for their songs, dances, drawings and for their continued friendliness of Guguta. In this context, the deputy director of the library, Eugenia Bejan, said that the book about Guguta was translated into more than 40 languages ​​and has 75 editions. “The books by Spiridon Vangheli are for readers of all ages,” said Eugenia Bejan. Along with the writer, there were prose writer, Victor Prohin, and plastic artist, Alexei Colaneac.

The prose writer, poet, translator and publisher, Spiridon Vangheli, was born on 14 June 1932 in Grinuti village, Balti district, now Rascani district. After graduating from the Pedagogical State Institute Ion Creangă (nowadays – the Pedagogical State University Ion Creangă), he worked as a school teacher, then editor in publishers: Cartea Moldoveneasca and Lumina.

He debuted in 1962 with plaque: In tara fluturilor (In the land of butterflies), followed by several volumes: Soarele (The sun), Pe lume (In the world), Baietelul din coliba albastra (The boy from blue hut), Isprăvile lui Guguta (The adventures of Guguta), Ministrul bunelului (The grandfather’s minister), Guguta – capitan de corabie (Guguta – captain of the ship), Steaua lui Ciubotel (Star of Ciubotel), Guguta si prietenii sai (Guguta and his friends), Tatal lui Guguţa cand era mic (The father of Guguta when he was small) and so on. Spiridon Vangheli was awarded International Diploma of Honour Andersen, Ordinul republicii (Order of the republic), Medal Mihai Eminescu, the State Prize of the MSSR and Prize Ion Creanga of the Romanian Academy with the title of Master of Arts and the Writer of the People.
