Moldovan speaker conveys video message on International Human Rights Day

Chisinau, 11 December /MOLDPRES/- Promotion and observance of universal human rights is a priority of the work of the Moldovan parliament. Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu conveyed a video message on International Human Rights Day, marked annually on 10 December and on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the signing of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.

“I am glad things are changing and people are starting to respect. From awareness of the importance of one’s own voice begins the history of human rights”, Candu said.

The speaker said that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, document that entered the Guinness World Records as one of the texts translated into most languages is the soul of our civilization.

“We have the same rights, regardless of ethnicity, religion, sex or social status. We have rights by virtue of being human. It is important to remain people in relation to each other, regardless of political choices or spoken language. Defend our rights and respect those around us”, he said.

During this year, the parliament organized and held several events dedicated to respecting the rights of children, women, disabled people, young people etc. At the same time, the parliamentary committee on human rights and interethnic relations has recommended to the government to work out and approve national plan on human rights standards. Currently the document is already in legislative procedure and provides for the implementation of the sustainable development goals in the Moldova 2030 agenda.
