Chisinau, 16 December /MOLDPRES/ - The first European-style Christmas Fair was inaugurated in the Moldovan capital on 15 December evening.  A group of children, encouraged by Prime Minister Pavel Filip to offer the first surprise, turned on the lights on the Christmas Tree.

According to the government’s communication and protocol department, the title of the fair, Christmas at Home, is symbolical and the multitude of events scheduled will bring together everybody, youngsters and elderly, including fellow countrymen who left abroad. “This year, we mark the Christmas at home together. At home is the place where we feel the best, at home we feel the true warmth of the holidays,” Pavel Filip said.

The prime minister noted that the government, the work of which is aimed at achieving the European goal, had set to bring the nicest European traditions in Moldova as well. “This is a small example of what European integration means. This does not mean that we should go to big European cities to see how the Christmas holidays are marked. This means marking Christmas at home, just as the big European cities celebrate it,” the PM stressed.

Also, the prime minister said that it was important that all Moldova’s citizens be able to enjoy the winter holidays, no matter the daily cares. “We learned this from our parents – even when it was difficult for us in family, they always took care that we, those seven children, feel happy when Christmas comes,” Pavel Filip said. Thus, over 4,000 children from all Moldova’s districts, including the Transnistrian region, will come to the Fair with the cabinet’s support.

To fully feel the atmosphere of the holiday, Pavel Filip visited the wood houses at the Fair, where he tasted mulled wine and pies and also discussed with residents and guests of Chisinau.

The Christmas Fair, placed in the perimeter of the Streets Metropolitan Gavriil Banulescu-Bodoni and Aleksandr Pushkin, will be opened daily till 14 January 2018.
