Moldovan parliament holds National Conference of Voluntariate 2017

Chisinau, 18 December /MOLDPRES/ - The parliament of Moldova hosts the National Conference of Voluntariate 2017 during two days. Representatives of the civil society from different Moldovan districts, MPs, ministers, specialists in public policies from ministries, experts participate in discussions, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.   

Attending the inauguration session is Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu, who welcomed the noble work, with dedication, carried out by volunteers.   

“Moldova joined the family of states which recognized the role of the volunteering activity in 2010, by the adoption of the law on voluntariate – after four years of joint efforts through cooperation between the parliament, Voluntariate Coalition and other public authorities,” the parliament speaker said.

Andrian Candu noted that, at present, the Civil Society Development Strategy for 2018-2020 was in process of final consultation, stressing that the strategy would be soon included in legislative procedure.

For her part, Director of the Platform for Active Citizenship and Partnership for Human Rights Antonita Fonari welcomed the fact that, in the last years, civil society’s representatives had been feeling an active support on behalf of the parliament and government. At the same time, Fonari appreciated the fact that voluntariate can be carried out jointly with lawmakers, no matter their political colour.  

Attending the opening session were also the head of the commission for social protection, health and family, decision-maker on behalf of the parliament in charge of cooperation with the civil society Valentina Buliga, head of the national commission for security, defence and public order, Roman Botan, MPs Valeriu Ghiletchi and Iurie Chiorescu, as well as Health, Labour and Social Protection Minister Stela Grigoras.    

The National Conference of Voluntariate 2017 is held on 18-19 December and is aimed at assessing the level of development of the voluntariate field and identifying the principal directions of its development in Moldova. The event is organized with the parliament’s support by the Platform for Active Citizenship and Partnership for Human Rights, in partnership with the members and partners of the coalition for the promotion of law and voluntariate activities (Voluntariate Coalition) and with the financial support of the annual programme of grants for the youth sector of Moldova’s Education, Culture and Research Ministry.
