Chisinau, 11 January /MOLDPRES/ - More than 104 million lei was invested in the North Development Region in 2017. About 70 million lei of this sum was earmarked from the National Fund for Regional Development (FNDR) and 34.3 million lei was attracted from external sources; most money is to be capitalized in 2018.

In 2017, The North Regional Development Agency (ADR Nord) coordinated 13 projects financed from FNDR, which provide for works of supply with water and sanitation, optimization of energy and public buildings. At the same time, important sums were invested by the European Union in the development of the North Region through the programme, Modernization of local services in Moldova, managed by the German Agency for International Development (GIZ). Also, several regional development projects were backed by the governments of the Czech Republic, Estonia and Romania.

This year, ADR Nord is set to continue cooperating with GIZ, Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development from Latvia, Czech Organization People in Need, Marshal Office of the Wielkopolska Region, West Regional Development Agency of Romania, Czech Development Agency, Romania’s Embassy in Moldova, as well as other international partners. Joint action plans were worked out to this end.

“The main goals of ADR Nord for 2018 consist in ensuring access to qualitative services and public utilities through the implementation of projects on physical infrastructure; facilitation of a sustainable economic growth in the region and promotion of the social and economic potential and attracting investments; improving the governance in the region,” sources from the Agency have said.

According to the interim director of ADR Nord, Constantin Bandiu, all public authorities from the region need to get involved in all activities underway. “Despite certain obstacles, objective or subjective, we will do our utmost to provide the local authorities with the necessary support, as we can efficiently develop our region only together,” Constantin Bandiu said.
