Moldovan electoral body to run info campaign in February 2018

Chisinau, 20 January /MOLDPRES/ – The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) will conduct a Civic Informational and Education campaign in early February, as to train citizens on electoral procedures and way parliamentary elections are organized. The announcement was made by head of CEC, Alina Russu, in an exclusive interview for agency.

According to the cited source, amendment to the Electoral Code also requires changes in the organization of the work of CEC. "Thus, some work of CEC will be directed to adjust the state information system of Elections in 2018, we will adjust all the regulations and instructions applicable to elections, launch a civic info and education campaign throughout which citizens can find out what electoral procedures are and how elections will be organized and we will have the training of all the electoral subjects," said the official.

The CEC’s head said that mass media would be an important participant into electoral process. "Supposingly we have 51 uninominal constituencies, the role of the local information media will increase and will be an essential one. The CEC had a discussion with the Audiovisual Coordinating Council (CCE) on regulation of audiovisual activity in the electoral campaign, but also for respecting compliance with the Code of Ethics and Electoral Conduct by electoral contestants and mass media," said Russu.

At the end of 2018, there will take place parliamentary elections in Moldova. The vote will be based onto mixed voting system.
