Bucharest-based Polish Institute inaugurates exhibition dedicated to Polish scouting

Chisinau, 1 February /MOLDPRES/ - An exhibition of documentary photos titled,  Polish Scouting and Guiding Association in the International Scouts' Family, was inaugurated by the Polish Institute from Bucharest at the National History Museum.  

Contacted by MOLDPRES, the deputy director of the museum, Aurelia Cornetchi, said the exhibition was made up of 30 drawing boards, made by the Museum of Scouting from Warsaw, at an initiative by the aforementioned institute. “The exhibition is part of a string of cultural events which mark the 100th anniversary of the Revival of the Polish State in 2018,” Cornetchi noted.    

In the context, the director of the Bucharest-based Polish Institute, Agnieszka Skieterska, said that this exhibition was just one element dedicated to the 100 years since the Revival of the Polish State. According to Skieterska, the scout is a global educative movement of children and young people (founded in 1907) based on volunteering; the movement is apolitical, open for everybody, within which young people are developing emotionally, physically, intellectually, socially, spiritually as responsible individuals and citizens in their local, national and international communities.       

Attending the event, Ambassador of Poland to Moldova Bartlomiej Zdaniuk stressed that the exhibition was very nice, as it speaks about patriotism and solidarity and fit into the string of events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the regaining of Independence by the Polish State.    

The head of the Scout Association of Moldova, Vasile Godoroja, said the members of the organization he leads had much to learn from Polish scouters.  

The Scout Movement was founded in 1907, it initiator being a British officer, Lord, Robert Baden-Powell. The lord saw in camping and activities carried out in nature not only a useful and interesting activity for children and youngsters, but also an efficient way of inducing them a civilized behavior towards the environment, and especially towards their fellows. To teach the scouters the discipline, Baden-Powell organized them according to the model of the military reconnaissance men.     

Scout is recognized internationally in 2017 countries and has more than 38 million members. All national organizations recognized are members of the World Organization of the Scout Movement.

The exhibition will be opened till 18 February.
