Chisinau, 20 February /MOLDPRES/- The agenda of cultural and tourist events for 2018, under the aegis of the local brand “Tree of Life”, was presented today by the National Association for Inbound Tourism. This is the first tourist calendar launched in Moldova, worked out with the support of the USAID, government of Sweden and other partners.

“Given that the year starts with a tourist calendar, it indicates certain modernization in this area. After many years, during which this sector was amorphous, we can see a tendency to develop and promote local tourism. Globally, tourism is among the economic sectors, and every tenth job is in tourism. Therefore, the actions we take make us optimistic, making us hope that it is possible in Moldova too. In this respect, a good example is Georgia and Armenia, where significant increase has been recorded in recent years,” senior project manager at USAID Moldova Sergiu Botezatu said.

For his part, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research Andrei Chistol informed that funding for tourism events has doubled this year. “We have a lot of actions, customs and traditions that represent us and it is a duty to make them as internationally known as possible, to promote and develop them. This calendar is an important agenda for national tour operators and event organizers with tourist impact, with opportunities to make interesting and attractive things for tourists in the world”, he said.

“Tree of Life” is a brand of the tourism industry in Moldova, launched in 2014 with the slogan “Discover the routes of life”, which urges to follow the path to new discoveries through hospitality, history, wine, gastronomy and traditions of Moldova.

The tourism calendar for 2018 includes the festivals and local tourist campaigns, already known in the country and abroad, and also included 28 new events. More than half of them are to be organized outside the capital, which will support the development of tourism at the local level too.
