Chisinau, 22 February /MOLDPRES/ - President Igor Dodon, along with the former Ambassador of Turkey to Moldova Hulusi Kılıç, today participated in the starting of the works of repair of the Moldovan Presidency’s building, devastated in April 2009. The repair will cost over seven million euros and will be paid with money of the Turkish authorities.

At the event, Igor Dodon said that the building of the Presidency was a state symbol which cannot remain ruined. “The state will spend no leu both for the repair and for the furniture; the money comes as a donation on behalf of the Turkish nation. We plan that the repair works be finished in next August, when I will invite Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to inaugurate this state symbol,” Dodon said.

The head of state noted that the inauguration of the restored building might take place just on 27 August, on the Independence Day.

Ex-Ambassador of Turkey Hulusi Kılıç said that the money spent for the repair was a donation. He gave assurances that the Presidency’s building would be one of the most beautiful buildings from Chisinau.

The Embassy of Turkey has earlier issued a press release reading that the works of repair of the Moldovan Presidency’s building would be carried out by the Sonbay company, based in Ankara, and all financial aspects would be coordinated by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), which fully assumes control over the project’s implementation.

TIKA representatives said that more than 150 workers would be involved in repair works; they are to restore about 2,500 square metres.

The parliament and presidency buildings were devastated during the protests staged in April 2009.
