Elected music band to represent Moldova at European song contest

Chisinau, 25 February /MOLDPRES/ – Music band: DoReDoS, will represent Moldova with song: My lucky day, by Filip Kirkorov at the international Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) 2018, which will be organised in May in Lisbon, Portugal.

They were elected on 24 February evening within final of the national selection of Eurovision 2018, in a proportion of 50 to 50 after the jury and televoting scores, with a total score of 24 points. The artists were also supported by the author of the song, Filip Kirkorov, who promised that an entirely different show will be prepared for the evolution of the band in Lisbon.

DoReDos is a Moldovan trio from Rabnita city. The group consists of Marina Djundiet, Evgheni Andrianov and Sergiu Mita. They graduated from the Academy of Music, Theatre and Fine Arts (AMTAP) in Chisinau and tried to represent Moldova at ESC in 2015 and 2016. They also reached the final at contest X Factor TV in Romania. The band was formed in September 2011 and was called: Art Band. In 2015, when they joined the national stage of Eurovision, they decided to change band’s name into: DoReDos, signifying corresponding musical notes.

There reached sixteen contestants and musical bands the grand final competing for the scene in Lisbon in 2018. The jury members: Anatol Chiriac, Paul Gamurari, Nicu Tarna, Victoria Cusnir, Sandu Gorgos, Ivan Aculov, Liviu Stirbu and Lilia Solomei marked DoReDos by 12 points and only Andrei Tostogan notified them by 8. Totalky, DoReDos accumulated 104 points, followed by Vera Turcan with 69 points, Ana Odobescu (54 points), Doinita Gherman & One Voice (52 points) and Felicia Dunaf (40 points). As a result of Televoting, DoReDos had 3813 points, Tolik – 385 points, Nicoleta Sava – 171 points, and Constantin Cobalean and Doinita Gherman – 134 points each.  

The interpreters from 42 countries will participate into ESC 2018, which will be held in Lisbon, Portugal, following victory of the country at issue 2017 in Kiev.  The semifinals of the contest will take place on 08, 10 May, while grand final – on 12 May.

The representatives of Moldova will perform in the second semifinal, which will take place on 10 May. There will be performers from Russia, Serbia, Denmark, Romania, Australia, Norway, San Marino, Holland, Montenegro, Sweden, Hungary, Malta, Latvia, Georgia, Poland, Slovenia and Ukraine, along with Moldova.

The representatives from Belarus, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Albania, Czech Republic, Belgium, Iceland, Azerbaijan, Israel, Estonia, Switzerland, Finland, Austria, Ireland, Armenia, Cyprus, Croatia, Greece, Macedonia will perform in the first semifinal.

The ESC is an international music competition, organized by European Broadcasting Union (EBU), the largest public television association in Europe. The show became one of the longest and most watched television programmes of the world being broadcast for over 60 years, uninterruptedly.

The representatives of Moldova, members of band: SunStroke Project, ranked third at Eurovision, with song: Hey mamma, in 2017. It is the best performance of Moldova at that contest. Moldova has participated in this competition since 2005. Then, Zdob si Zdub ranked on position 06.
