Moldova, Georgia synchronise agendas to make voices stronger

Chisinau, 01 March /MOLDPRES/ – Moldova and Georgia will work harder on the European integration agenda and collaborate upon defence and security dimensions. The statements on it were made today at the meeting of Speakers of Parliaments of Moldova and Georgia, Andrian Candu and Irakli Kobakhidze, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.

Andrian Candu said that there has been a need for bilateral and trilateral cooperation on security and defence issues, as well as promotion of reforms that would bring states closer to status of eligible countries for accession to EU.

According to him, there are many rules and areas where Moldova, Ukraine or Georgia are more advanced. Andrian Candu chose to exchange experience, expertise and more intense collaboration. He said that being pro – active in achieving common and solidarity goals in counteracting current security challenges, leads to achieve joint goals easier together than apart.

At his turn, Speaker of Parliament of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, announced interest in measures taken by Moldova in relation to misinfo and propaganda, government reform and ensuring energy security by diversifying sources. He said that during his recent visit to the USA, foreign colleagues welcomed collaboration initiated by three Speakers of Parliament from Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine. According to him, good relationship between countries has promising prospects.

The Speaker of Georgian Parliament is one of the authors of initiative to hold High Level Interparliamentary Conference: Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine: Eastern Partnership and Current Security Challenges. The event will take place on 02 March, being hosted by Parliament of Moldova.

The conference, organized in partnership with the Atlantic Council, will discuss issues related to info security, energy, defence, as well as ensuring stable economic growth and rule of law in the region. The event will bring together about 150 high – level officials and experts, including speakers of Legislative, MEPs, US Congress representatives, international and regional notorious experts.

The representatives of the Parliaments in the area as well as the US Congress, MEPs confirmed participation in the first high – level interparliamentary conference on security issues: Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine: Eastern Partnership and Current Security Challenges, organised in Chisinau. Also, notable experts such as Atlantic Council Executive Vice President, Damon Wilson, Anders Aslund, Eurasia Centre, Atlantic Council, Eurasia Centre Director, John Herbst, Ambassador, Asif Chaudhry, Associate Director RUSI, Jonathan Eyal, Ambassador Alexander Vershbow, former Secretary NATO Deputy General, other international and regional experts.
