Democrats’ leader says USA, Atlantic Council reiterate support for pro – Western approach of Moldova

Chisinau, 03 March /MOLDPRES/ – The representatives of US and Atlantic Council reiterated their support for pro – Western approach of Moldova. The Chairman of Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM), Vlad Plahotniuc, made this statement after a meeting with a member of the American Congress, Ted Poe, former US Ambassador to Moldova, Dr. Asif Chaudhry, and representatives of Atlantic Council in Chisinau.
The foreign officials are on a visit to Chisinau, where they participated in interparliamentary conference: Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine: Eastern Partnership and Current Security Challenges.
According to the PDM’s press service info, during the talks, the Democrats’ leader discussed on necessity to have a balanced perspective in Washington on political developments in Moldova and strengthen support of US Congress and strategic circles for Moldova and the region, chosen in which context it has recently been filed a resolution in US Congress.
"We can always talk to American partners in most direct way about challenges we face in the region. We find constant support in US Congress, through trusted partners like Ted Poe, for Moldova’s security objectives. Also, Dr. Asif Chaudhry and the Atlantic Council reiterated their interest for Moldova and support for its pro – Western approach. I think Washington has an important stake in the region," said Vlad Plahotniuc.
At their turn, foreign officials have encouraged Governing Coalition to rely upon Moldovan – American relationship and continue to work within process of settling the Transnistrian conflict.
The Interparliamentary Conference: Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine: Eastern Partnership and Current Security Challenges took place in Chisinau on 02 March, organised by Speakers of Parliaments of Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine in cooperation with US Atlantic Council. There were discussed issues of disinformation, info security, energy security, as well as common challenges related to economic growth and modernisation of institutions of regional countries.
