First company making meal tickets launched in Moldova

Chisinau, 06 March /MOLDPRES/ – The French group Up today launched the first meal vouchers in Moldova, which, according to Law on meal vouchers, which came into force on 01 January 2018, is an additional mechanism for social protection of employees.

The meal vouchers will be used in canteens, cafes, restaurants or for getting food in shops. It is forbidden to convert them into cash. Also, employers providing employees with meal vouchers will be exempt from paying taxes of wages. The value of a voucher will be up MDL 45 and issued both on paper and digital format.

"This event takes place due to actions undertaken by government to support national economy while the results will be visible shortly – benefits for both employees and employers," said Minister of Economy and Infrastructure, Chiril Gaburici. He added that meal vouchers occurred as innovative solution for employers in Moldova to meet challenges of attracting and motivating employees.

"The decision of Up to invest into Moldova was extremely rapid due to opening of Moldovan authorities to approach legislative framework with international norms and practices, through adoption of Law on meal tickets. We assure you that the activity of Up Moldova will support economic environment through products and services dedicated to motivating employees, optimising professional expenses and developing local trade. The French group is one of largest international suppliers of food service with meal vouchers. He opened a subsidiary in Moldova in October 2017. At present, Up Moldova owns largest national partner network for accepting lunch vouchers. Thus, over 600 canteens, shops and restaurants in Moldova are ready to offer customers opportunity to pay lunch or food through meal vouchers – one of the most widespread extra – wage benefits at international level.
