Moldovan premier meets World Bank's country manager for Belarus, Moldova, Ukraine

Chisinau, 12 March /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip today had a meeting with World Bank’s (WB) Country Manager for Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine Satu Kahkonen, on a fact-collecting visit to Moldova, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.   

The officials exchanged opinions on projects under implementation and prospects for further development of the cooperation between the Moldovan cabinet and the World Bank.  

PM Pavel Filip thanked for the continuous support provided to Moldova by the World Bank in carrying out the agenda of reforms and the Partnership Strategy till 2020.

The sides made an assessment of the projects implemented with the World Bank’s support in diverse sectors: energy, education, environment, improving the business climate, roads infrastructure and electronic governance. In this respect, Pavel Filip and Satu Kahkonen exchanged opinions on actions due to be undertaken to carry out the projects as efficiently as possible. The prime minister emphasized the need to correctly establish priorities through working out clear-cut visions of development of each sector separately.      

“The money from the foreign assistance should be spent with maximum effect and for the benefit of Moldova’s citizens. Therefore, following the government’s reform, the Finance Ministry deals with the coordination of the foreign assistance, as it has the best competences for the efficient use of the financial resources,” Pavel Filip said.   

The prime minister noted that the programmes implemented with the WB’s support were meant to exactly meet the goals assumed by the government: enhancing the quality of the economic governance, providing better public services as regards the health, education and infrastructure, backing the development of a dynamic and innovative business environment. The officials spoke out for the further turning to good account of possibilities of extending the government-World Bank partnership.
