Former environment minister as Liberal candidate for Chisinau mayor's office

Chisinau, 14 March /MOLDPRES/- Former Environment Minister Valeriu Munteanu is the candidate of the Liberal Party for Chisinau mayor’s office. The statement was made yesterday after the meeting of the political bureau of the party.

According to a press release by the PL, six candidates have been submitted and examined for the mayor’s office.

“Munteanu was nominated the Liberal Party candidate for the mayor office by the vote of majority of the bureau members,” the communiqué reads.

New local elections in Chisinau will be held on 20 May.

So far, the leader of the Dignity and Truth Party, Andrei Nastase, has proposed his candidacy for this position. At the same time, the Democratic Party of Moldova announced it will back a pro-European candidate. Socialists noted they will submit a candidate for this position, and the Action and Solidarity Party will make a decision on the matter.

Former mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca resigned in mid-February, suspected of having influence peddling in paid parking and overcoming service duties.
