Moldovan PM says IT industry important engine of Moldova's economic growth

Chisinau, 15 March /MOLDPRES/ – The informatics industry is an important driver of economic growth of Moldova. Prime Minister, Pavel Filip, made that statement in an interview given on occasion of one year of activity of the Centre for Excellence in ICT (Tekwill).

The Head of Executive said that by implementation of Tekwill project, one of the key issues of IT industry in Moldova was met, that is growing need for qualified human resources.

"By this project, an educational, innovation and IT entrepreneurship centre was created offering training plans, modern trainers and labs, support for launching and supporting IT business, research and development opportunities. Even if only a year passed, Tekwill can be considered one of locomotives of IT industry in Moldova," said Filip.

The Prime Minister mentioned that there were made possible achievements also by development partners – US Government and Swedish Government, National Association of ICT Companies, Technical University of Moldova (UTM), as well as international companies IBM and Microsoft.

"Tekwill initiatives fit perfectly and contribute greatly to achievement of policy objectives promoted by Government, especially by Strategy: Digital Moldova 2020 and Strategy of growth of IT Industry. The contribution comes especially to the part of providing a suitable environment for development of IT human capital and IT innovation, facilitating and advising on launch and development of IT businesses, identifying and training teams for IT projects," said Filip.

He noted that Tekwill is a project that must be a model for other university centres and is already a brand and attraction for IT investors and professionals. "The government will continue to support this strategic sector having enormous development potential, which may increase further in upcoming years," said Pavel Filip.

Excellence Centre in ICT Tekwill was launched in 2017 and it is an educational platform and an entrepreneurial hub designed to enhance the role and potential of Moldovan industry of Information and Communication Technology. The dedicated space of Tekwill is provided by UTM and has an area of ​​3,400 m2. Tekwill offers access to 150 co – working spaces, 12 meeting and conference rooms and 10 offices.
