Chisinau, 29 March /MOLDPRES/- The national emergency call 112 service was launched in Chisinau today. It enters into operational exploitation today, but the industrial commissioning of service is set for 30 June.

Attending the event was Prime Minister Pavel Filip. He said that this service brings us closer to the EU. “It is a beautiful project, initiated in 2012. It is a soul initiative for me. Its implementation lasted several years, however, we release the service nine months ahead of schedule. Through it, we will provide citizens with modern services just like in the EU countries,” he said.

“The new system will automate all processes via modern software. Moldova is the second country to use it. The service 112 will allow us to handle more complex cases for interventions and will enable specialists to intervene more quickly. Thus, the questioning time will be reduced threefold, from 2 minutes to 40 seconds. We have a good team and the service will save lives,” he said.

The representative of Ericcson AB company, which implements the project, said “the service is a very important goal, which is at the top of the list of national priorities and will increase citizens’ safety”.

For his part, deputy head of the 112 service Constantin Gorincioi said “the system is efficient, because it allows the location of the person who made the call, his/her name and other important information. The call takes about 30 seconds,” he said.

The authorities announced that a campaign to promote the service in hospitals, schools and community will be carried out in the next period.

Over the past year, specialized services took 2.7 million calls, up by about 10 per cent against 2016. After activating the single European emergency call number 112, the 901, 902 and 903 will operate in parallel by late June, when all calls will be diverted to 112.

Filip initiated the draft service 112 in May 2012 during his term as Minister of Information and Communication Technology.
