Moldovan premier meets delegation of European Parliament

Chisinau, 3 April /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip today had a meeting with the European MPs of the Committee on European Affairs and Committee on Budgets, on a 3-6 April working visit to Moldova. The goal of the visit is to assess the level of implementation of the Association Agreement with EU and monitor the efficiency of the use of the financial support on behalf of EU, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.    

PM Pavel Filip highly appreciated the constant support of the European Parliament to promote the European integration of Moldova and implement the reforms’ agenda. Filip noted that the agenda on the country’s transformation was guided by the priorities of the Association Agreement with the European Union. Both the parliament and the government have every determination to maintain the implementation of the Association Agreement as the priority No 1 and would continue joint efforts to carry out the commitments taken.      

“For us, the further support on behalf of EU is important. We do not have the plan ”A” or ”B”, we have a single plan – getting closer to the European Union, so that the country’s European integration becomes irreversible,” Pavel Filip said. In the context, the PM said that the government was making every effort to fulfill the actions agreed upon for the earmarking of EU’s macro-financial assistance. At the same time, to ensure an as efficient as possible use of the foreign assistance, the  mechanism of its coordination was changed. “Presently, the public money is spent with much care and maximum efficiency,” the prime minister specified.       

The PM reviewed also the main reforms carried out by the cabinet on the last period, among which the reform of the central public administration, of justice and pensions system. Due to the implementation of the reform of the pensions’ system, for the first time in the last 20 years, the average pension on the country reached the level of the consumption basket. At the same time, till the end of the mandate of the present government, the so-called “small reform” in justice is to be carried out, which imply a string of actions to strengthen the judicial system.        

The MEPs confirmed the wish to continue consolidating the cooperation between the European Union and Moldova, so that the citizens enjoy the advantages provided by the rapprochement with EU. At the same time, the European lawmakers encouraged the authorities to continue efforts to strengthen the rule of law state, justice sector and mass media, in order to investigate the bank fraud and recover the bank assets, as well as to provide conditions for carrying out free and democratic parliamentary elections.
