Moldovan prime minister meets Ukrainian counterpart

Chisinau, 12 April /MOLDPRES/ – Prime Minister Pavel Filip met today with his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodimir Groisman, in margins of Kiev Security Forum. The officials discussed current issues on common agenda, with an emphasis on achieving objectives of Roadmap for development of Moldovan – Ukrainian cooperation.

According to the government’s communication and protocol department, in discussions, parties welcomed promulgation of law on joint control at the Moldovan – Ukrainian border. "Thank you for your support in settling the Transnistrian problem. We could not have achieved the results we have today without the help of Ukraine," said Pavel Filip.

At the same time, Prime Ministers appreciated completion of necessary procedures for signing of Agreements on liberalisation of car and air transports. They noted that application of those documents would raise bilateral relations to a qualitatively new level.

Also, Prime Minister, Pavel Filip, highlighted importance of facilitating mutual travel by offering freight and passenger carriers opportunity to stay on territory of neighbouring country for more than 90 days. The PMs agreed that document could be signed during the visit of Moldovan foreign minister to Kiev scheduled for May 2018.

Pavel Filip also talked about importance of establishing conditions for operation of Dniestrian Hydro – energetic Complex. In this respect, it was made a joint request to the European Commission to conduct a study on impact of Hydro Power Plant on the Dniester basin and it was set up a joint bilateral commission.

The Premiers also discussed bilateral trade relations, which are on rise. The volume of trade between countries increased last year by 30 per cent, as opposed to 2016, reaching $885 million.

Pavel Filip and Volodimir Groisman also referred upon need to step up efforts to address regional security challenges in context of territorial conflicts in two countries. Pavel Filip mentioned in context that Moldova has supported independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

The government in Chisinau will also provide 150 tickets for rest and rehabilitation of pupils in conflict region in eastern regions of Ukraine in 2018. "It is a not so significant but symbolic aid, which speaks on close relations between our countries," said Pavel Filip.

Prime Minister Pavel Filip invited his Ukrainian counterpart to visit Moldova in July 2018, when it will take place GUAM summit, presidency of this structure being taken over by Moldova.
