Forum of Ethnic Minorities held in Moldovan capital

Chisinau, 21 April /MOLDPRES/ - A Forum of Ethnic Minorities titled, Preservation of Moldova’s Statehood, took place in Chisinau today, in the context of the Stefan cel Mare Year.   

The event was organized by the Commission for Inter-ethnic Relations of the Civil Society Council under the Moldovan President, in cooperation with the leaders of the national and territorial ethnic and cultural organizations.    

Attending the forum were representatives of the Ukrainian, Russian, Gagauz, Bulgarian, Azeri, Belarusian and other communities. At the event, ethnic minorities’ representatives gave more speeches about the consolidation of the society and preservation of Moldova’s sovereignty.  

Participating in the forum, President Igor Dodon said that the preservation of the statehood was an up-to-date subject for Moldova.  

“The organization of such events contributes to the awakening of the feeling of unity, cohesion, firmness and courage to retort to any risks, decisions and actions meant to affect the statehood of our country. I am proud of the fact that Moldova is a multi-ethnical country; this makes us stronger and more united,” Dodon said.    

For her part, the head of the Commission for Interethnic Relations of the Civil Society Council under the Moldovan President, Elena Beleacova, said that the organization of this event would become a nice tradition in Moldova. “The forum turns to good account the inter-ethnic relations and renders obvious the patriotic spirit. We want Moldova to flourish and love for the Motherland should be eternal,” Beleacova said.

At the end of the event, a joint declaration was approved on the preservation of culture and peace, development of dialogue platforms, strengthening the society and international cooperation for the good of Moldova’s citizens.

Last time, the Forum of Ethnic Minorities was held five years ago.  

Representatives of 120 of ethnic minorities live in Moldova, according to data by the Inter-ethnic Relations Bureau.
