Chisinau, 23 April /MOLDPRES/- MPs of the parliamentary security committees of Moldova and Romania today signed a joint declaration supporting deepening of the Strategic Partnership with Romania for European Integration of Moldova. The head of the parliamentary commission for national security, defense and public order, Roman Botan, made the statement at a joint conference with the chairman of the commission for defense, public order and national security of the Chamber of Deputies of Romania, Dorel-Gheorghe Căprar.

According to Botan, the relations between the Moldovan and Romanian parliaments offer new perspectives in the continuation of the European integration of Moldova. “We signed today a joint declaration supporting the firm commitment to expand and deepen parliamentary level of the strategic partnership with Romania for Moldova’s European Integration. The goals we are pursuing by signing this declaration are: firm commitment to further enlargement and deepening the strategic partnership at parliamentary level, continuing support for establishing and enhancing the resilience of Moldova, limiting the effects of regional instability through the use of diplomatic instruments,” Botan said.

For his part, Dorel-Gheorghe Căprar noted that the launch of an enhanced parliamentary dialogue will bring benefits to both countries. “We are the pioneers of a new parliamentary road and I hope that all parliamentary committees in Romania and Moldova will follow this path. Through dialogue and parliamentary diplomacy, we have a major contribution to supporting cooperation between our countries,” he said.

The two officials said that the biggest security challenge in Moldova and in the region is the presence of the Russian military forces in the eastern districts.
