Chisinau, 25 April /MOLDPRES/- Moldova has made significant progress in creating a national environment to sustainable development, including by improving the business climate, setting up free economic zones to attract foreign direct investment and expanding infrastructure to support the business environment. Foreign and European Integration Minister Tudor Ulianovschi made the statement at the Forum of the UN Economic and Social Council on financing for development, held in New York. The official attends the event as Chairman of the Trade and Development Council of the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

According to the MAEIE’s press service, Ulianovschi reiterated the national commitment to ensure the mobilisation of the resources needed to achieve the sustainable development goals. He said that the Chisinau authorities worked out a short-term and medium-term action programme of Moldova, which aims to improve the business environment, attract investment, access to new markets and boost dialogue and cooperation with development partners.

“Financial inclusion is important to ensure the sustainable development of all. To this end, the Moldovan government is working to provide assistance to distinct social categories by working out programs to support small and medium-sized enterprises, especially founded and run by young people and women,” he said.

Referring to the implementation programme of Agenda 2030, Ulianovschi said that the achievement of the set goals requires the mobilisation of all types of financial resources -  internal and external, public and private to achieve sustainable development in all three dimensions and to ensure that no one is marginalised. “The United Nations will have to play a decisive role in helping member states to translate the Addis Ababa Agenda into life and achieve sustainable development goals. We hope the ambitious reforms initiated by the UN Secretary General will optimize the mechanism of the organisation to provide national assistance and results to back our efforts to reach the Agenda 2030 goals,” he said.

Ulianovschi participates in the Forum of the UN Economic and Social Council on financing for development and a high-level meeting on Sustainable Peace-building in New York on 23-27 April 2018.
