PM says Tricolour flag acquires soul in hands of Moldova's citizens

Chisinau, 27 April /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip has urged citizens to unity and involvement in the education of generations which are to respect the Tricolour and be proud of Moldova. The PM made the appeal at an event organized on the occasion of the State Flag Day at the Defence Ministry today, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.    

The prime minister said the Tricolour mobilizes the society, reminds about the sacrifices of the forerunners and returns to the historical roots, being a symbol of the past, present and future of the country. Under the Tricolour, hoisted on all state institutions today, the most important decisions were adopted for Moldova: the voting of the Declaration of Independence, establishment of cooperation relations with more than 100 states of the world and the signing of the Association Agreement with EU.      

“I am glad to see this flag when I go in the territory, hoisted included on homes of more citizens. I am excited by ceremonies in which servicemen and policemen take oath of allegiance for the country in front of the flag. I am inspired by sportspeople who bear the flag at international competitions and I look with melancholy at our citizens from abroad who take the flag with them, in an attempt to take with them, in fact, all the country. This flag ceases to be a piece of linen in your hands and acquires soul,” the prime minister said.   

Also, Pavel Filip stressed that an example of patriotism and dignity is given by servicemen of the national army. The PM said that the leadership had given up the compulsory military service for the formation of a professional army. Filip said that the cabinet would continue efforts to identify needed resources to improve the labour conditions and motivate the military. “Flags are never flying in vacuum, without an air current. This thing is symbolical. As the same thing happens also with the country, which needs dedicated people, like you, just as air,” the prime minister added.   

The Tricolour was officially designated as State Flag on 27 April 1990 and starting from 2010, the Flag Day has been marked annually.
