Chisinau, 16 May /MOLDPRES/ – The weapon surveillance system will be automated. The measure is stipulated in the Concept of the Automated Information System "State register of weapons" (RSA), which was approved by the Government today.
According to document, it will help to improve and rationalise exchange of info between law enforcement agencies in field of reference, as well as prevent and counteract illicit trafficking in firearms and related ammunition.
The project provides for creation of a unique centralized record of civilian weapons which are legally circulating in Moldova, natural and legal persons owning them, operations with arms and munitions, scrapped, destroyed, stolen and lost weapons.
Similarly, concept regulates collection, processing, input, recording and management of data from Automated Info System (SIA) of RSA.
The new elements present within project are automation of the data import process of RSA in gun licence and certificate printing application. At the same time, registrars will be optimised and facilitated access to weapons custody records by creating an application for depositing, structuring and storing info from scanned documents.
According to the project's authors, it will radically control checking of small arms and light weapons. The document is also a preparation for Moldova's association with EU Code of Conduct on Arms Exports.
