Chisinau, 17 May /MOLDPRES/ – The cooperation relations between EU and Moldova are governed by Association Agreement and the fact that Moldova would have been granted observer status in Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) is an internal problem. The statement was made today by European Commissioner for Regional Policy, Corina Cretu, following a meeting in Chisinau with Prime Minister, Pavel Filip.

The quoted source stated that the official act guiding foreign policy of Moldova is EU Association Agreement. "Another important act is the Free Trade Agreement. The European Union expects Moldova to continue its commitments and fact that the country would have been granted observer status into EEU is an internal issue. The basis of cooperation between EU and Moldova is Association Agreement," said Corina Cretu.

At his turn, Prime Minister, Pavel Filip, stated that Moldova is a parliamentary country, and Foreign Policy Agreements and the country's commitments in relation to other states must be approved by Parliament and Government, otherwise they are not valid.

"A year ago, when head of state requested observer status, this status did not exist, then it was invented. All external agreements signed with our country need to be ratified by by Parliament and Government, and acts that do not provide for ratification do not have legal power. I officially declare that the Government will not allocate money to assist some observers in EEU. The only option for Moldova is EU," said Filip.

During a visit to Sochi, the head of state Igor Dodon announced that Moldova was accepted as an observer into EEU. A treaty to this effect was signed by the head of state in April 2017. Yesterday, at a press conference, Igor Dodon said he would have all powers to sign international treaties. According to the official, this right would have been ensured by the Constitution.
