Chisinau, 17 May /MOLDPRES/ - A meeting of the Joint Control Commission (JCC) from 17 May this year took place in Bender, chaired by the Transnistrian region’s delegation.

As for the first subject on the agenda, concerning organizational aspects, the Tiraspol representative informed about the withdrawal of the expert for customs issues of the Transnistrian delegation, Ivan Kharichyov, from the Transnistrian delegation.

In continuation at the meeting, the Commission heard a weekly report on the situation in the Security Zone, unveiled by the Joint Military Command (JMC). Rapporteur, head of the JMC general staff Vitaly Morozov informed that, following the monitoring of the Security Zone, carried out on 7-15 May, decision-makers had found out that the situation was calm.

Moldova’s delegation brought to the attention of the sides, especially the Transnistrian component, the need to exclude the unilateral placement of the so-called mobile border and customs checkpoints in the Bender city, declared as settlement with enhanced security regime. Thus, by the actions of the Transnistrian representatives, citizens are groundlessly subjected to a rigorous control just in the perimeter of the city, with the right to their movement limited. Such actions, which have been lately fixed more times, clearly prove infringement of the regime of the Security Zone by the anti-constitutional power wielding forces.

Subsequently, a working meeting of the co-heads of the Joint Control Commission, representatives of Ukraine and OSCE Mission in Moldova was held. The participants in the event discussed the final text of a draft decision on ensuring security and free movement on the bridge across the Dniester river nearby the villages Gura Bacului and Bacioc.

Ukraine’s representative in the Joint Control Commission, Sergey Zhivchuk, made an appeal to the sides to mobilize efforts to identify the compromise solution. Zhivchuk noted that a new meeting in the 5+2 format would be soon held and the non-settlement of the problems dealing with the free movement on this bridge might have a negative impact on the final decision at the meeting, as well as on the implementation of more assistance projects in this region. Regretfully, no consensus has been reached this time too and a break was taken for additional consultations.

The next meeting of the Joint Control Commission will be held on 24 May.
