Polling stations closed in Moldova

Chisinau, 20 May /MOLDPRES/ - The polling stations were closed at 21:00 today.  

More than 225,000 citizens voted in Chisinau till 21:00, which accounts for almost 36 per cent of the voters.

At the same time, about 37,000 residents participated in the ballot in the Balti municipality, which represents almost 35 per cent of the voters.

According to data put out by the Central Electoral Commission, more women than men came to vote.  

New local elections of mayors today take place in seven settlements: Chisinau and Balti municipalities, Leuseni and Nemteni villages (Hancesti district), Volovita village, (Soroca district), Jora de Mijloc village (Orhei district) and Parlita village (Ungheni district).

If none of the candidates in the polls gets more than a half of the electors’ votes, a run-off will be held in two weeks, during which citizens will have to elect one of the two electoral contenders who picked up most votes in the first round of the polls.
