Chisinau, 11 June /MOLDPRES/- The inhabitants of the villages of Carpineni, Mingir and Negrea, Hancesti district, will have a modern waste management system by late 2018. Its implementation is possible thanks to the Government of Switzerland providing grants for the sustainable development of localities involving natives, under the "Migration and Local Development" Project, implemented by the United Nations Development Program.

“At present, 40 unauthorized landfills are identified in the Negrea, Carpineni and Mingir localities, polluting groundwater and waters of the Lapusnita river basin. As a result of this project, we will reorganize the company "Carpineni Servicii" in the intercommunity service of waste disposal and storage. Then we have even bigger plans to build an authorized landfill, already having the support of Ukraine's partners under the EU-supported neighborhood program," Mayor of Carpineni village Ion Carpineanu said.

The total budget of the project is about 298.2 thousand dollars. Of this amount, three thousand dollars is the contribution of migrants, collected through crowdfunding. Over 33 thousand dollars is the contribution of the local public administration, 20.6 thousand dollars will be invested in Hancesti district council.

“This project is truly unique and necessary to people. This is an innovative model through which several localities identify a common problem and join their efforts to solve it, including with the support of migrants," Project Coordinator at the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation in Moldova Radu Danii said.

The Migration and Local Development Project is part of a multi-annual intervention of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation in Migration and Development and is implemented in 2015-2018 in partnership with the Moldovan government, local public authorities, local NGOs, the private sector, population, including migrants from the target communities. The project budget for 2018 is about 1.3 million dollars. 40 villages and cities throughout Moldova are part of the project (25 in stage I and 15 in stage II).
