World Bank interested to turn to good account funds for road rehabilitation in Moldova

Chisinau, 12 June /MOLDPRES/- Progress on the implementation of the Moldova Local Roads Improvement Project has been analyzed at a meeting between Minister of Economy and Infrastructure Chiril Gaburici and World Bank team headed by WB Country Director in Moldova Anna Akhalkats. The project provides 80 million-dollar-assistance to rehabilitate about 300 kilometers of local roads.

“The project fits into the government priorities, one of which is the development of road infrastructure. Moreover, this is a very important one for our localities, namely because the roads leading to schools, kindergartens and hospitals are being repaired,” Gaburici said.

The sides assessed the actions taken since the signing of the financing agreement in April 2016 so far. They also discussed the measures to mobilize companies winning international road rehabilitation tenders, and how to speed up the procedures for turning to good account the funds dedicated to the rehabilitation of roads in Moldova.

The WB representatives reiterated that the project implementation team is willing to providing the necessary support to train the local road construction companies so that they apply to road rehabilitation projects under the Local Roads Improvement Project. Gaburici stressed that the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure is interested in motivating the Moldovan companies to apply for the announced tenders. "Involvement of local companies means more jobs for the citizens of our country, and experience in the field", he said.

Road rehabilitation works through the World Bank project are carried out by the State Road Administration under the supervision of the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure.
