Third issue of open-air classical music festival held in Moldova

Chisinau, 13 June /MOLDPRES/ - The third issue of the DescOPERĂ open-air Classical Music Festival is held at the culture and nature reserve Orheiul Vechi (Old Orhei) on 15-17 June. The festival again stages music by Carl Orff, Giuseppe Verdi and Johann Strauss. The event will take place at the natural amphitheatre from Butuceni village, Orhei district, which provides an ideal sonority for the symphony orchestra and voices of opera soloists.

At a today’s news conference, Education, Culture and Research Minister Monica Babuc said that the festival’s goal was to promote the classical music and talents of Moldova’s culture, as well as tourist attractions, especially the culture and nature reserve Orheiul Vechi, where a crag, Raut river and the nature make a fantastic picture.       

According to the minister, the festival will open with the stage work Carmina Burana by composer Carl Orff, interpreted by the Symphony Orchestra of the Serghei Lunchevici National Philharmonic, on 15 June at 19:00.   

The opera Nabucco, in four acts, by Giuseppe Verdi will be staged on 16 June. Friedrich Pfeiffer from Austria will conduct the Symphony Orchestra of the Maria Biesu National Opera and Ballet Theatre.    

For her part, the director of the Serghei Lunchevici National Philharmonic, Svetlana Bivol, said that Sunday, 17 June, is traditionally dedicated to the King of Waltz – Johann Strauss.    

Attending the event, Austrian conductor Friedrich Pfeiffer stressed that Moldova has orchestras, choirs and soloists of the highest level. “The public from Austria wants to come here to admire them. Each year, my friends come to the festival, as there are absolutely beautiful picturesque places in Butuceni and the classical music is divine.” the conductor also said.  

According to organizers, the price of tickets varies depending on the placement, between 200 and 350 lei. The price of a ticket is 150 lei for pensioners and students. Mini-busses will go to Butuceni from the Maria Biesu National Opera and Ballet Theatre and the cost of one travel ticket is 35 lei.    

The event is part of a campaign on promoting Moldova as tourist destination titled, Fii Oaspetele Nostru (Be Our Guest) and is organized under the aegis of the country tourist brand Pomul Vieții (The Tree of Life). Guests will have possibility to visit sites, monastery, Christian cave venues, museum and households of people, which preserve the atmosphere of the last centuries, as well as to participate in novel culinary master-classes, prepared by the event’s hosts.       

The third issue of the DescOPERĂ open-air Classical Music Festival is organized by the Education, Culture and Research Ministry, in cooperation with the Maria Biesu national Opera and Ballet Theatre and the Serghei Lunchevici National Philharmonic and is hosted by Eco-Resort Butuceni.
