Moldova, Canada sign Agreement on mutual promotion, protection of investments

Chisinau, 13 June /MOLDPRES/ – Moldova and Canada have signed Agreement on Mutual Promotion and Protection of Investments (FIPA). The document was signed in Ottawa by Foreign and European Integration Minister, Tudor Ulianovschi, and Canadian Foreign Trade Minister, François – Philippe Champagne, the MAEIE’s public diplomacy, strategic communication and media interaction service has reported.

According to Minister Tudor Ulianovschi, signing FIPA Agreement is a vital achievement of Moldovan – Canadian relations and represents a strong signal for business environment of both states to open up new opportunities for initiating and realising investment projects using existing economic platforms in Moldova and Canada .

"Over recent years, Government of Moldova has implemented a set of strategies that have allowed for an attractive environment for investors, especially free economic zones, industrial parks and IT, which has enabled projects to be implemented successfully. I think FIPA Agreement is a green light for Canadian companies to be present on Moldovan market and develop business," said Minister Tudor Ulianovschi.

The signing of Agreement on mutual promotion and protection of investments was welcomed by Canadian Minister François – Philippe Champagne, which stressed the document has sent a strong signal both to Moldova and to whole region on opening Canada for cooperation. "Today, when mutual cooperation between the two countries has advanced, Canada and Moldova manifest their desire to join forces in promoting bilateral trade upon world trade principles," said Minister Champagne.

Tudor Ulianovschi and François – Philippe Champagne discussed possibilities of expanding trade and economic cooperation of two states, capitalising on opportunities of Free Trade Agreement signed between Canada and EU, as well as the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement of Moldova – EU.

At the end of discussion, Minister Champagne accepted invitation of Minister Ulianovschi to pay a working visit to Moldova.
