Moldova marks great Romanian poet's 129th death anniversary

Chisinau, 15 June /MOLDPRES/ - More cultural events today were organized in the Moldovan capital and throughout the country on the occasion of the 129th anniversary of the death of poet Mihai Eminescu, called The Evening Star of the Romanian Poetry.  

Writers, culture and art people, poetry lovers today morning laid flowers at the bust of Mihai Eminescu on the Alley of Classics of the Romanian Literature in the Stefan cel Mare public garden from Chisinau. The action was followed by a literary and musical recital.  

In his speech, the deputy head of the Moldovan Writers’ Union, Teo Chiriac, said that Mihai Eminescu is commemorated not only in Chisinau, but also in Soroca, Telenesti, Cahul and other districts, in Iasi, Suceava, Bucharest and Chernivtsi, all over the world where our fellow countrymen live, everywhere where there is Romanian conscience. And poet Mihai Eminescu will always be present where there is Romanian conscience.        

At the same time, the director of the Chisinau-based Mihai Eminescu Romanian Cultural Institute, Valeriu Matei, stressed that, to pay homage to Mihai Eminescu, meant to pay homage to the Romanian language and spirituality.     

At the event, academician Mihai Cimpoi unveiled the second issue of the Eminescu Encyclopedic Dictionary, published at the Gunivas publishing house from Chisinau.    

A show dedicated to Mihai Eminescu, organized by the Embassy of Romania in Chisinau and the Mihai Eminescu Romanian Cultural Institute, took place at the Serghei Lunchevici National Philharmonic on 14 June evening. Laureates of the Mihail Jora International Contest performed at the show.    

Mihai Eminescu, who is regarded by the posthumous literary critic as the most important poet of the Romanian literature, was born in Botosani, Romania, on 15 January 1850 and died in Bucharest on 15 June 1889. The poet was buried at the Bellu Cemetery from Bucharest. In October 1948, Mihai Eminescu was posthumously elected member of the Romanian Academy.
