Chisinau, 21 June /MOLDPRES/ – The magistrates of Chisinau Court of Appeal (CAC) has upheld today the decision of the first instance and has declared the new local elections in Chisinau municipality illegal and void.

Following the decision, the elected mayor, Andrei Nastase, qualified the decision as an illegal one. "The magistrates have avoided analising our evidence. It is a blow to our state and people. We will challenge the decision of the judges," evoked Nastase.

The decision of CAC may be appealed to the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ).

At today hearing, Nastase has also called for the panel of magistrates to be dismissed, but the request was rejected.

During the hearing, the supporters of Andrei Nastase protested in front of CAC and in front of the City Hall of Chisinau municipality. They demanded validation of mandate of mayor.

Two days ago, the magistrates of Chisinau Court, sector Centru, declared the new local elections illegal and void, while the mandate of elected mayor was not validated. The main reason for declaring the new local elections to be illegal were the live social networking by elected mayor, Andrei Nastase, on the day of poll by which he had urged citizens to vote.

The local elections took place in two rounds on 20 May and 03 June. After the second round, Andrei Nastase accrued 52.08 per cent of votes in Chisinau, and his opponent Ion Ceban – 47.43per cent.
