Reunion of ambassadors of Moldova starts in Chisinau

Chisinau, 09 July /MOLDPRES/ – Over 40 diplomats attend the meeting of Moldovan ambassadors, which started in Chisinau today. The event will last for three days and aims at examining issues related to the work of diplomatic missions and increasing their efficiency.

The event was inaugurated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Tudor Ulianovschi. He reviewed the achievements of diplomacy in 2017 and set the perspective priorities.

"The diplomacy must keep interest for Moldova and live in order for our country to recognise its European path. The ambassadors must strive to change perception of Moldova, known as an ex – Soviet state. It is also necessary to increase the diplomatic presence of our country around the world. Moldova must have at least one embassy on every continent," said Ulianovschi.

He added that the opening of new embassies was currently discussed in Argentina, Gana and India. "The diplomatic presence of Moldova in these countries would provide greater support in international fora," affirmed Ulianovschi.

Chief of Chisinau diplomacy urged ambassadors to cooperate more with mass media and specified that Moldova's image should be promoted more intensively, including on social networks. He specified that diplomats should not forget to promote Moldovan products as well.

The meeting will also examine issues related to recent developments in international situation, in particular the challenges and threats to international security. One of priorities of the day is the problems faced by the Diaspora, ways to offer social protection to Moldovan citizens temporarily working abroad.

In order to streamline the work of embassies, formulate specific tasks for diplomatic service institutions as to achieve the goals set by authorities within foreign policy, agenda includes meetings of heads of diplomatic missions with Prime Minister Pavel Filip and members of the Government, Parliament Speaker Adrian Candu, President of Moldova, Igor Dodon and other chiefs of state institutions.
