PA OSCE reaffirms need to withdraw foreign armed forces from territory of Moldova

Chisinau, 10 July /MOLDPRES/ – The Parliamentary Assembly of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (PA OSCE) reaffirmed the necessity of the complete withdrawal of foreign armed forces from the territory of Moldova during the current annual session, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.  

The discussions took place at the General Affairs Committee of PA OSCE for Political Affairs and Security, where the Committee's general rapporteur, Kristian Vigenin (Bulgaria), presented the Report of Committee and its draft resolution. Thus, there were debated the proposed 25 amendments to the text of Resolution by the delegations of 57 states participating in the annual session of PA OSCE.

Among those, there were 3 amendments referring to Moldova, which reaffirmed necessity of complete withdrawal of foreign armed forces from the territory of Moldova and transformation of current peacekeeping mission into a civilian mission with international mandate.

There were proposed 2 amendments by delegation of the Parliament of Moldova and 1 amendment by delegation of the Romanian Parliament. All were accepted by a majority vote. The approval of amendments of Moldova's delegation was based on joint effort of parliamentary delegations from Moldova, Romania, USA, Great Britain, Georgia and Lithuania.

The head of Parliament's Delegation to PA OSCE, Sergiu Sirbu, said that by supporting amendments, OSCE reconfirmed its plenary support for resolving the Transnistrian conflict, respecting territorial integrity and sovereignty of Moldova. According to him, the final text of resolution will be adopted at plenary session of PA OSCE today, on 10 July.

The 27th session of the PA OSCE takes place on 07 – 11 July and is hosted by the German Bundestag. This year meeting has generic: "Implementation of OSCE commitments: the role of parliaments". The delegation led by head of parliamentary delegation to PA OSCE, Sergiu Sirbu, includes MPs Anatolie Gorila and Ion Casian. The annual session of PA OSCE gathers over 300 MPs, representing 57 countries in North America, Europe and Asia.
