Chisinau, 13 July /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip, at a today’s visit to the southern Leova district, visited the site of construction of the main aqueduct Leova-Iargara, which will supply 28 settlements with water. The project worth about 61 million lei will contribute to the modernization of the drinking water supply services, preventing the pollution of the environment and reducing the risks for residents’ health, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

The PM was informed about the march of the works, which started in the beginning of this year and are to be finished in next October. An aqueduct with a length of 22.9 km, two pumping stations and a re-pumping station are to be built within the project. Also, a water-purifying station will be modernized, two underground reservoirs will be restored and two new ones will be constructed.

Immediately after the construction is completed, the settlement Iargara with about 4,000 residents will be connected to the main aqueduct. At the same time, at the second phase, the villages Filipeni, Romanovca and Cupcui will be connected to the aqueduct with sources earmarked by EU. All settlements are scheduled to be connected by late 2020.

The prime minister stressed that the supply with water of Moldova’s settlements was an urgent need and a priority of the government. At the same time, Pavel Filip highlighted the importance of the efficient use of the resources available, noting that the success of the projects depends not only on the amount of money allocated, but also on the managerial capacities of the persons administrating the financial means.

The project on construction of the Leova-Iargara aqueduct is carried out with the financial support of the German government, National Regional Development Fund and with the involvement of the Leova district council. In all, about 20,000 residents from southern Moldova will benefit from access to modern water supply services.
