Moldova, Italy to collaborate in quality assurance of wine sector

Chisinau, 17 July /MOLDPRES/ – Moldova and Italy will cooperate in the field of quality protection in wine sector. This is stipulated by a Memorandum signed today in Chisinau by director of the National Office of Vine and Wine, Gheorghe Arpentin, and director of Central Inspectorate for the Protection of the Quality and Counteraction of Fraud of Agricultural Products in Italy, Stefano Vaccari.

Gheorghe Arpentin has said the document provides for best practices in developing and managing quality assurance systems, especially with regard to geographical indications and designations of origin. "This will allow us to have a credible assurance system on foreign market," said Arpentin. Also, Memorandum will provide the possibility of initiating new projects within EU in wine sector.

director of Central Inspectorate for Quality Protection and Agrimaculture Fraud Prevention, Stefano Vaccari, said that the Italian quality assurance system in wine sector is an efficient one and controls are not intended to penalise producers but to increase their reputation on market. "Moldova has the quality and history of wine it can present," said Italian official.

The memorandum was signed for a period of three years.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment (MADRM) announced today that the first assistance activities set out in Memorandum intend initiation of two projects where it will be carried out the expertise of wine legislation and it will be developed a new Strategy for development of wine sector.
