Chisinau, 14 August /MOLDPRES/ – The viticulturists will harvest more grapes in 2018 than in 2017. At least this indicates the estimated data of the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment (MADRM), according to which the global production of grapes will reach 680 thousand tons in 2018.

Specifically, the global grape harvest in commodity production is estimated at 460 thousand tons, about 12 per cent more than in 2017. The table grape harvest will be about 130 thousand tons, wine varieties – 290 thousand tons and Isabella varieties – about 40 thousand tons. Almost 315 thousand tons of grapes will be directed to processing.

The costs of caring with European varieties for wine increased in 2018 and reached the maximum value of MDL 37 thousand/ha in corporate households. According to MADRM's information and media communication service, the increase in expenditures is due to higher number of chemical treatments, as well as increase in expenses related to remuneration of work of viticulturists.

Based upon calculation of estimated costs, the purchase prices of grapes for European varieties will be at least MDL 4.5 per kg and varieties of kinds of Isabella – at least MDL 2.75 per kg, according to specification of MADRM.

The surface of vine plantations has diminished in recent years. If previously, the vine was planted on about 150 thousand hectares in Moldova, the area of plantations was 130 thousand ha in 2017.

The global grape harvest was 675 thousand tons in 2017, and 616 thousand tons of grapes were collected in 2016.
