Over 50 publishers to partake in International Book Fair Bookfest Chisinau

Chisinau, 22 August /MOLDPRES/ – Over 50 Moldovan and Romanian publishing houses will participate in the International Book Fair Bookfest Chisinau, on 29 August – 02 September at the International Exhibition Centre Moldexpo in the capital of Moldova.

The publishers will expose more than 50,000 volumes, merged into about 60 individual stands.

At a press conference today, the Minister of Education, Culture and Research, Monica Babuc, has mentioned that the International Book Fair Bookfest Chisinau has become a remarkable event. "The partnership with the Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR) and Institute Eudoxiu Hurmuzachi for Romanians from Everywhere (IRP) made this extraordinary event possible in Chisinau, and the success that we enjoyed brings us this year already in the third issue", specified Monica Babuc.

According to official, the previous issue attended over 50,000 visitors.

During five days, Minister Monica Babuc added, the most important publishing houses of Moldova and Romania are waiting for their readers with a rich editorial offer that includes books for children, school auxiliaries and a wide range of volumes from the most varied fields.

There will also be several book launches and exhibitions, meetings and autograph sessions with writers and persons of culture, intellectual and interactive games, outdoor reading, musical lounges, literary cenacles, and the International Book Fair Bookfest Chisinau. It will also be launched here campaign "Salveaza lumea donand o carte" (Save the world donating a book). The inauguration of the International Book Fair Bookfest Chisinau will take place on Wednesday, 29 August.

Attending the event, director of Romanian Cultural Institute Mihai Eminescu in Chisinau, academician Valeriu Matei, said that the institution he runs supports the event financially in a proportion of 64 per cent so that the books are sold with discounts. In context, head of the Union of Publishers of Moldova, Gheorghe Prini, mentioned that the price cuts will be 20 – 25 per cent and publishing house Stiinta (Science), which on 01 January 2019 will round 50 years, will offer discounts up to 60 per cent.

The International Book Fair Bookfest Chisinau is organised by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research (MECC) of Moldova in partnership with the Romanian Ministry of Culture and National Identity (MCINR), ICR, Institute for Romanians Abroad (IRP) Eudoxiu Hurmuzachi, National Library (BNM), Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) of Moldova, Union of Publishers of Moldova (UEM) and Association of Publishers in Romania (AER).
