International Book Fair Bookfest Chisinau inaugurated in Moldovan capital

Chisinau, 29 August /MOLDPRES/ – The International Exhibition Centre (CIE) Moldexpo has opened the third issue of the International Book Fair Bookfest Chisinau today, which will take place on 29 August – 02 September. 

Attending the event, Minister of Education, Culture and Research, Monica Babuc, said that the International Book Fair Bookfest Chisinau is a true celebration of the Romanian language book, which takes place on the eve of Our Romanian Language Festival and on the threshold of the beginning of the new study year. The official wished a long life for that remarkable event, being a new step in our development.

At his turn, the President of the Union of Writers of Moldova, Arcadie Suceveanu, has said that the International Book Fair Bookfest is a beneficial competition between the Moldovan and Romanian publishing houses which come to readers with their best books.

In this context, Deputy Director of the Institute for Romanians Abroad Eudoxiu Hurmuzachi, Nicolae Branzea, has specified that Bookfest Chisinau is a model of unity, and director of the Romanian Cultural Institute Mihai Eminescu in Chisinau, Valeriu Matei, has affirmed that “together we have managed to put Chisinau on the list of the biggest book fairs.”

According to State Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research, Igor Sarov, Bookfest Chisinau is a natural continuation of the International Book Fair, which existed after the declaration of Independence of Moldova. The official highlighted that there participated over 50,000 visitors at previous issue.

Interviewed by agency, the president of Moldovan Union of Publishers, Gheorghe Prini, has mentioned that the event is attended by over 50 Moldovan and Romanian publishing houses, which exhibited over 50 thousand volumes, reunified in about 60 individual stands. "We are glad that Bookfest was a dream which came true. This is the second largest book fair in the Romanian area, which brings together the most important publishing houses in Moldova and Romania," said Gheorghe Prini.

There will be more book launches and exhibitions, meetings and autograph sessions with writers and people of culture, intellectual and interactive games, reading out – of – doors, music saloons, and literary cenacles within the International Book Fair Bookfest Chisinau. There will be also launched campaign: Save the world by donating a book there.

The International Book Fair Bookfest Chisinau is organised by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research (MECC) of Moldova  in partnership with Ministry of Culture and National Identity (MCIN) of Romania, Romanian Cultural Institute (CCR), Institute for Romanians Abroad (IRP) Eudoxiu Hurmuzachi, National Library of Moldova (BNM), Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) of Moldova, Union of Publishers of Moldova (UEM) and Association of Publishers of Romania (AER).
