OSCE Mission in Moldova concerned about unathorized military exercises held in Security Zone

Chisinau, 17 September /MOLDPRES/ – The OSCE Mission to Moldova has issued today a press release expressing its concern upon military exercises organised by the so – called Transnistrian Armed Forces (FAT) in the Security Zone, near Tiraspol on 14 September.

According to the source, an OSCE team was sent to the area being able to observe part of an exercise on the Dniester river near Tiraspol. "The team was able to monitor these activities without restrictions from FAT," said press release.

According to the cited source, the observers of OSCE announced all delegations of the Joint Control Commission (CUC) throughout established channels in accordance with the Principles of Cooperation between CUC and OSCE Mission to Moldova in 2004 and urged all parties involved within process to respect commitments which had been previously made.

The agreement on the principles of peaceful settlement of the armed conflict in the Transnistrian region of Moldova of 21 July 1992 stipulates that the military exercises in ZS must be authorised by CUC. This was not done for applications of 14 September.
