Chisinau, 3 October /MOLDPRES/- In 2019, 2,600 km of road will be rehabilitated in Moldova. Minister of Economy and Infrastructure Chiril Gaburici made the statement today who announced the launch of the Good Roads 2 programme.

Gaburici said that out of the 2,600 km of roads, 1,500 will be included in the Good Roads 2 program, another 900 km will be rehabilitated from the external financing sources and about 180 km of routes will be upgraded as a result of foreign investments.

A total of 2 billion lei will be allocated to restore the routes included in the Good Roads 2 program. 1.5 billion lei will be taken from the state budget and another 500 million lei - from the Road Fund.

Gheorghe Curmei, director general of the State Road Administration, said that under the Good Roads 2 program, the officials will focus on building access roads to localities and roads connecting the villages. At the same time, the range of interventions will be extended. This will include the execution of works to ensure the evacuation of rainwater, application of road markings and provision of street lighting. At the same time, the authorities propose that citizens be more actively involved in selecting the road sections due to be rehabilitated next year.

According to Curmei, by late October 2018, the road sections due to be included in the Program will be selected and the budget finalized. They will be investigated in November and the first tenders will be launched in February 2019. Therehabilitation works will start as soon as weather conditions allow it.

The Good Roads program was launched this March. Last week, PDM leader Vlad Plahotniuc announced that it will continue in 2019.
