Money transfers to private people reach almost one billion dollars in Moldova in first nine months of 2018

Chisinau, 26 October /MOLDPRES/ - The net money transfers to private people exceeded 955 million dollars in the first nine months of 2018. The remittances maintained at a high rate of growth during this year and reached an average of 9.5 per cent against January-September 2017, according to data by the National Bank of Moldova (BNM), made public today.  

The volume of money transfers from abroad to private persons through banks from Moldova returned to the high increase recorded before the crisis triggered by the “one billion theft.” The maximal amount for this period was hit in last May, when financial means worth 126 million dollars were transferred from abroad. In September 2018, however, an 11-per cent decrease in remittances was registered against the same period of the year before.   

According to BNM, in last September, financial means with the net value of 97.38 million dollars were transferred from abroad to private people. In the last three months, the remittances had a tendency of drop, from 115.66 million in July down to 97.38 million in September. In the third quarter of 2017, the remittances had an opposite trend to the one recorded this year.  

As to the geographic origin, 42.9 per cent of the transfers to private people come from the European Union, 26.2 per cent - from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and 30.9 per cent - from the rest of the world.

As for the structure in terms of currencies of the transfers from abroad to private persons, the share of transfers in euro stood at 48.2 per cent (increasing by 8.6 percentage points against the same period of the previous year), followed by the transfers in U.S. dollars – 44.7 per cent (decreasing by 7.5 percentage points) and the ones in Russian roubles – 7.1 per cent (decreasing by 1.1 percentage points).   

The National Bank warns that the private people who transfer and receive money by the money remittance system (SRB) can have the citizenship of any states. The origin and the country from which the money is transferred can be different. The data includes discounts with banks from Moldova, without the banks from the left bank of Dniester.
