Election campaign for parliamentary elections to start on 25 January 2019 in Moldova

Chisinau, 05 December /MOLDPRES/ – The electoral campaign for parliamentary elections will begin on 25 January 2019, 30 days before the polls. The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) has approved today the calendar for organisation of the parliamentary elections of 24 February 2019.

According to the document, the electoral period will begin on 10 December, and the voters will be able to register before 09 January 2019, which means 45 days prior the date of the poll. At least 25 days before the election, the voter may cancel the previously recorded entry.

"So far, more than 3,700 persons have been registered for election. The pre – registration is valid for citizens which have a right to vote being abroad or living in localities on the left bank of the Dniester river and intend to participate in the parliamentary elections. The individuals can fill in the online registration form on www.alegator.md. Similarly, the registration can be done by submitting a request to the CEC or diplomatic missions, consular offices of Moldova. The pre – registration allows the estimated number of voters to vote out of Moldova and voters in the localities on the left bank of the Dniester river, in order to facilitate the opening of additional sections and determine the estimated number of ballots to be distributed to respective polling stations," said CEC chairman, Alina Russu.

According to approved programme, after registration, the voter rolls will be verified by 23 February. Following the elections, there will be submitted the necessary documents for validation of the elections to the Constitutional Court (CC) by 04 March, which will have 5 days to confirm or deny the legality of the parliamentary elections.

The parliamentary elections of 24 February 2019 will be organised for the first time on the basis of a mixed system. It is needed MDL 110.2 to run the ballot. Also, the head of CEC noted that, for the time being, the necessary expenditures for organising the referendum on the reduction of the number of MPs from 101 to 61 on the day of the elections and their dismissal if they fail to fulfill their obligations properly.
